Beef between Supreme Soul and Jabbawockeez? Nope.

I have been trying to communicate this to SOOO many people who don't know about dance and who are susceptible to the manipulations of TV producers....but Supreme Soul is NOT cocky.  It was a sentiment that MTV manipulated into the show, and I've heard SO many people that have bought into it.  I felt that SS was unjustly labeled as the "cocky guys", and that probably contributed to their early demise from ABDC2.

I actually found this on Supreme Soul [Sector]'s Wiki, and it describes the situation very accurately.  I couldn't put it in better words, so I'm gonna just copy/paste.  Here's the reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supreme_Soul

---------------------------

Supreme Soul, affiliates of Soul Sector crew, was introduced by MTV and portrayed by MTV producers as the "cocky" crew to create controversy on the show by fabricating a story which took a battle out of context to create Supreme Soul as the "cocky crew" that beat the Season 1 victors, the Jabbawockeez. The battle which was refered to was between Jabbawockeez and Supreme Soul's affiliate units, the SoCal Allstars and Soul Sector, respectively. Although different Soul Sector members have battled different members of SoCal Allstars and Jabbawockeez in the past, when inquired about the result of the battle by Shane Sparks, a judge on ABDC, Bionic a Supreme Soul-Sector member also a former co-member with Rainen, from Jabbawockeez in another crew, wanted to fairly say that both crews battled well, but they were further pushed by Shane Sparks for a straight answer by the judges when Pharcyde, also member of Supreme Soul-Sector,sarcastically remarked that they won in order to protect the crews reputation since it was an audition show and Shane was attempting to make them look bad. Different Soul Sector members were actually present and Bionic was the only one that was present at that battle from Supreme Soul, very few members of the Jabbawockeez were also involved along with Ronnie, a Super Crew member from ABDC season 2.

In an interview with Ben Chung, from the Jabbawockeez, by Hawaii's power 104.3 , he remarked about the situation and stated "it wasn't a completely legit statement, partially true and partially not , thats 'reality tv' and thats what they [MTV] do. Big ups to Supreme Soul you are all doing your thing, big ups to you guys, much respect, Jabbawockeez crew we respect ya'll. keep doing your thing man." The interviewer tried to push more controversy by responding, "so they kinda exaggerated the whole thing, they kinda took an inch and turned it into a yard", in which Ben replies "well you know...we all know how 'reality tv'is man. The producers tell them to kinda say something, so we're not hating on that man, its all good, it's all love its hip hop." The push for the storyline was created by MTV and pushed on Supreme Soul to create drama and entertainment, a trademark of MTV "reality tv". Unfortunately many people viewing did not understand how MTV producers, editors and writers of the show handled the dance crews to portray what viewers think is "real". All crews are prepped and each crew is provided an image and encouraged to say things to create story lines for each crew. The story lines create drama as well as steer the mind of viewers.

Members of Supreme Soul Sector and Jabbawockeez continue to have much respect for each other as dancers despite what MTV told Supreme Soul members to do because of their understanding behind the screen of MTV and mutual respect for what each other has done for hip hop. Unfortunately many unknowing fans, who do not understand the relationship of these different crews as well as the history and dance culture, continue to believed in the propaganda of "reality tv" stirred and created by MTV and have continued to spread rumors and gossip through out the internet about Supreme Soul as a result. Many of those spreading rumors are those who do not understand hip hop dance culture and have only been introduced to hip hop culture and dance through MTV and ABDC. Even Jabbawockeez member Rainen has tried to clear things up for fans in order to stop fans misunderstanding on youtube by replying "its not jabbawockeez vs suprem soul..Its so-cal all stars which is a mix of bboys and freestylers. some from jabbawockeez, full force, and cultures shock la...the other was the orignal soul sector. The only one who was in the battle that is a part of surpeme souls was bionic man...this battle was a showcase battle..No beef was involved..peace and blessings. RAINEN" Sadly for many fans, Supreme Soul was the victim of misguided direction from MTV producers, editors, and writers which lead to their premature elimination on the show.

I wholeheartedly agree. I don't like it when people think of Supreme Soul as the 'cocky group'. Right when they started out, I saw how they did not want to be cocky and the judges just pushed them to be that way.

Along the same vein, I know how MTV can get with reality tv. Henry is heavily jaded because of this and his experience at America's Best Dance Crew Season 1. He saw how the 'reality tv' is fabricated and not really 'real'. Emotions are overly hyped, drama is developed and the story we see is ultimately the story that the producers think will interest the viewers the most.

MTV is focusing their business practice on gearing tv towards viewers and what they want to see and viewers in turn react as they often hope for and continue to encourage MTV with more interest. I do think it is important for people to know that reality tv is not really reality tv. Nothing you see is real. It is just for entertainment value. Just like professional wrestling. Viewers just need to educate themselves and change their perspective on these types of shows. In the end, they cannot take it outside the context of the show. If people really wanted to see a true dance competition, they should go to see World Hip Hop Championships - http://www.hiphopinternational.com/ - without the stories, without the drama, just purely with dancing talent.

MTV's ABDC Season1 Casting Special was just one of MANY experiences that has jaded me towards TV shows in general.  It's not a competition of talent, it's a competition of viewership, sponsorship, and Nielson Ratings PERIOD.  The entire time Dance2XS competed, the producers and directors tried to get us to spin fabricated 2XS:NYC vs 2XS:Chicago plotline.  After each round that we made it through, the director had to cut and request that we give more drama in our reactions.  Even Kayla would ask us "So who's better? Chicago or NYC?" and when we refused to answer the question straight out, they would push even more.

After Season1, the final straw was KabaModern losing to Status Kuo. I lost all respect for the show.  I apologize to Michelle everytime she wants to watch Season2 and I delay b/c I feel torn between wanting to see the performances yet not want to deal with the crap drama, crap judging, rigged voting, and the occasional group that doesn't even deserve to be on the same show as Jabba and FannyP etc.

Supreme Soul getting ousted early is just another long string of disappointments over a show I have become to despise despite the talents of Jabba, Kaba, & FannyP.

Even HipHopInternational (the sponsors of ABDC) isn't necessarily "real" competition.  The judges can never be completely impartial, unbiased, & objective. It's not possible.  Plus the crews that win are just the "best" amongst the ones that competed, not the best in the "world", "country", or whatever the title they give away. What about all the crews that don't have the budget to compete?  Or have a style that the judges for THAT particular competition appreciate?

True dance "competition"?  Go to the clubs, the battles, and underground spots dancers go to and let the crowds judge.  That's all that matters anyway... dance is expression, not competition.
